Let's Talk about Vaccines 💉💊

1. Which vaccines are required at Howling Dog?

Rabies, Distemper Parvo, and Bordetella* are required to be up-to-date for all dogs coming to Howling Dog.

*Bordetella is usually required yearly at vets, but it is highly recommended to administer every 6 months for dogs going to daycare or other high social locations.

*Leptospirosis is highly recommended for dogs residing in Los Angeles, especially if your dog often goes hiking or frequents any other outdoor activities

*Canine Influenza is also highly recommended

2. If my dogs are up to date on vaccinations, are they safe?

They will be significantly safer, but there will always be the ever so present risk of catching an illness in a daycare setting.  Just like sending our human kids to school, getting a flu shot does not protect them from all the different types of flu present in our world.

The more frequent they visit and be exposed to multiple dogs at a younger age, their immune system will also be much more likely to strengthen.

3. When can my puppy start socializing with other dogs?

Please wait AT THE VERY LEAST until their second puppy booster shot before exposing your puppy in any environment where a dog may have been!! Then cautiously start introducing one by one to other vaccinated dogs*.

*Even vaccinated dogs may be carriers to certain illnesses without any visible symptoms!

4. Do I HAVE to vaccinate my dogs?

Most definitely.  The only other alternative will be to provide a titer test result from a veterinarian.

5. What is Howling Dog doing to protect my dogs?

We keep our temperatures close to 68° (yes, even with our doors open) in order to keep our bacterial growth rates low and to provide ventilation.  We maintain the cleanliness of our materials & environments on a daily basis, and do a thorough cleaning of our facility every other day to keep a pristine environment.

Please help us keep the safety of our pups by vaccinating your dogs!

If your dog is showing any signs of illness, please keep them home & let us know right away - we will conduct a deep-clean sanitation of our facility.
